In all my reasearch for Worktrotter's guide to Denmark I have not been able to find anywhere the biking rules written down in English.
The public viewers can see an excerpt, whereas Worktrotter members can see the full listing.

Topic: Reducing costs using a fully working DIY-organizer

Hi all,

here is another way to save costs by switching (or avoiding) a hi-tech organizer to the good ole' paper organizer:

- do it yourself (DIY) at minimal costs
- easy and simple to use
- personalize the fill cards
- expand it to your needs
- use standard punch holes
- make it yourself from the scratch
- experience your mind is limiting the application

... maybe this custom DIY-organizer helps you to get your things done?

The pros and cons of a paper-based organizer are endless to discuss, so before you take actions you should run an in-depth research.

0. Preamble
1. The HipsterPDA / the DIY-organizer
2. Some concerns, disadvantages and advantages
3. More information

0. Preamble

The HipsterPDA was originally a tongue-in-cheek reaction, but
the DIY-organizer is a fully working paper-based organizer.

A personal remark: I am very excited about creating and using the DIY-organizer - you will notice this while reading this posting.
Legal remark: All trademarks are property of their respective owners.

1. The HipsterPDA / the DIY-organizer

History timeline is easy as this:

Alpha: HipsterPDA --- a re-reaction/overreaction to the increasing expense and complexity of personal digital assistants

Omega: DIY-organizer --- the consistent further development and working result

The HipsterPDA
Starting with the HipsterPDA will make you wonder - stick to it and learn about the birth of a queer thing.

The DIY-organizer
Now for some action: download your kit of DIY-templates and get organized the old fashioned way by your favorite pen and effective templates.

2. Some concerns, disadvantages and advantages

E-mail, alarms, voice recording, pictures
One thing this organizer won't do is retrieving or sending e-mail, alert you in advance to appointments, record your voice and store your digital camera pictures.
Yes, this is not the DIY-organizer. Blame it: it can't do that. But you'll never run out of battery in the most important moments!

Passwords
And it does not store your password in an encrypted data bank.
No, it won't - but you can. You can change your passwords to a better working system and gain in the future. This is also usefull if you have to make up constantly new passwords - visit the discussion on this web site for brilliant ideas instantly to use:

Analog way of encrypting passwords & account numbers

Advantage #1 Personalize your fills and refills
Now for an advantage: when using this DIY-organizer you are in full power of the creation. Need a special sheet of paper? Create it! Tired of a limited snap-lock system? Use your standard puncher. Need a special size of paper? Cut it!

These opportunites settle the above mentioned limitations for me.

Advantage #2 Design it whole
And speaking of creating, check this web site for more intriguing designing:

Topic: Reducing costs regarding cultural works

Hello all,

I like to share an all-time hint to reduce legally (some restrictions may apply) costs regarding cultural works - wherever you are living, working, being, doing ...

It's about Project Gutenberg (GP) - an archive of cultural works digitized in open formats. Again: some restrictions may apply.

How to? or What's inside this posting

0. Preamble
1. Online access thru a computer
2. The Gutenberg web site
3. Reading on the go
4. Words about honesty and future

0. Preamble

This posting is not a call to violate copyright laws. These books are in the public domain in the United States and everybody — including Project Gutenberg and you — may read and distribute them. If you don't live in the United States you'll have to check the laws of the country you live in before downloading and distributing Project Gutenberg's ebooks.

I am taking no responsibility of any action upon this concept - you are liable for own actions. You are on your own. Point.

Don't forget to read the topic no. 4 Words about honesty and future

1. Onlince access

In this case you have online access as you can read this posting. So we just jump to topic 2.

2. The Gutenberg web site

http://www.Gutenberg.org

At GP you will find classic writings in the public domain in the United States of America (http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Gutenberg:The_Project_Gutenberg_License) and free to download in various formats (like HTML, PDF, etc.).

Here comes a little extra: GP is also provided in other languages. For example german orientated readers may visit www.Gutenber.Spiegel.de, danish orientated readers may search www.gutenberg.org/browse/languages/da. Visit Gutenberg.org for a complete list of languages or browse the wiki for help on this issue.

Again: check your country laws of copyright as stated above (see the preamble).

3. Reading on the go

You may read these literature on-line (using your web browser) or off-line by downloading it to your computer or even to a mobile device, like a mobile phone, personal digital assistent or any other device supporting mobile reading. Because the list of devices and possibilities is constantly extending it's easier to consult the wikipedia page explaining GP:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gutenberg.org

In the second paragraph a list of formats is the starting point for your search regarding your desired book reader application: "Wherever possible ... such as HTML, PDF, EPUB, MOBI and Plucker."

4. Words about honesty and future

Words about honesty: if you like GP and/or it's language branches, please support them from time to time and donate. The choice how much to donate and when is up to you.

Words about future: Support your local and/or favorite book store: buy books to nourish the economic cycle.

Thank you for skimming so far. ;)

Happy reading!

Bernd C.

Hallo!

Here is a link to the official SKAT tax info in English:
http://www.skm.dk/foreign/english/taxindenmark2008/

I have been unable to upload the tax calculator spreadsheet, but will forward it to Dagmar and ask her to do it. It is incredibly helpful

However, here is the link to the site where I found the spreadsheet: It also has a good overview of how taxes are calculated:

My first meetup/sparkup as well. I thought it was very well organized and professionally run. The huge turnout was also very encouraging--it's nice to know that there is a large support group for those of us new to Denmark!

Dagmar, congrats on publishing the German guide. James, the website looks great. Char, nice work collecting those cost-saving tips. Everyone else, keep those "reducing costs" suggestions coming!--I heard a lot of great stuff at the sparkup and it'll make a big difference. Chili Mili's anyone? ;-)

I just thought I'd share an idea and start a discussion about other activities the business corner could do as I am sure people have some good ideas (as we found out at the last meeting).

Here is mine... We could have themed meet-ups with the aim of knowledge building. This could work by collecting together all the people who would like to do a short presentation (15-20mins) to the rest of the group. We could then group them into a series of themed meetings (with networking after of course). Two totally random examples of themed meetings could be...

- 4 people's experiences of starting a business in Denmark.
- 3 presentations about using the web to market your products.

Of course we could decide what themes we want based on the skills and knowledge we have in the group.

Nice atmosphere, and I thought it was a great venue. It was cosy and convenient for people to get to from the station or biking.

Looking forward to the business expo June meetup, where maybe I can even have a little stand? B-)

Thanks, Priskilla. Glad you liked it.
Here is the link to the entry on the Forum, where you can get hold of the document and where you can share your hints and tips ;-).
We'll also make the hints and tips available from the Resource page any day now.

Same applies to the presentations. They will be downloadable from the page of yesterday's event. http://www.worktrotter.dk/events/past-events/details/14-sparkup05.html.

Thanks for the presentation yesterday Char.
Reducing cost does not necessarily mean living like a monk and skimping on everything.
It is about acting smarter!
Try shopping in high-end supermarkets on Saturdays 20 minutes before closure.
Fresh products (fish and meat) is put on sales as they want to get rid of it before the week-end!

Please read this article from the Copenhagen Post about the Church Tax (Kirkeskat). Apparently there are many foreigners who pay this tax without even realising it! - Kathleen V.

Link to article:
http://www.cphpost.dk/news/national/88-national/45572-foreigners-unaware-of-church-tax.html

Here is the article copied and pasted (just in case the link doesn't work)

Source: The Copenhagen Post Online

Foreigners unaware of church tax
Monday, 04 May 2009 13:47 KR News
The state church receives funding in the form of tax deducted from its members’ salaries, but many foreigners are unaware that they have been signed up as members or that it involves paying tax

Both the Atheist Society and an anti-church tax website have reported repeated requests from foreigners wanting to opt-out of paying an automatic tax to a church they are not members of.

Around 83 percent of Danes pay the church tax, which is on average 0.88 percent of their earnings, to pay for the upkeep of the Church of Denmark. It is expected that this will amount to almost 5.5 billion kroner this year, reports 24 Timer newspaper.

Danes that are baptised in the Church of Denmark, the national Lutheran church, must pay the tax as long as they are members, but foreigners who move to Denmark are not obliged to, unless they register as church members.
Mads Dørup, who runs the ingenkirkeskat.dk website (‘no church tax’), said that he receives at least five enquires every month from people wanting to opt-out of paying the tax.

‘It is mainly people who have moved here, for example, from Norway and Sweden. They are very surprised that they have been signed up as church members and it takes them by surprise that they suddenly have to pay a tax,’ said Dørup.

The Atheist Society also reported receiving a number of queries each month; mainly from people who did not realise they had been paying the tax for many years.

When a foreigner moves to Denmark and signs up for the civil registration ID number, they should be asked if they want to be a member of the church. If they answer yes, then they are signed up as a paying member of the church.

Jesper Vind of the Atheist Society believes that not enough is being done to make foreigners aware that they are being registered as paying church members.

If a currently registered church member wants to opt-out of membership, they must write to their local church office and request a resignation of membership form in addition to providing their birth certificate.

Once a person opts-out of the Church of Denmark, they can no longer have a minister of that church preside over religious events like a wedding or funeral.
