Collect information about the company

It is not uncommon that people apply for a job without making any research on the company that offers this job. This makes their application less convincing than that of other applicants who do.

If you don't know what the company is about, you don't know what they want to achieve, you don't know how to set yourself into this frame and you cannot show what your support would mean for the hiring company. So, your application might end up very fast on the "Not so interesting pile" and you're probably out of the game.

Even clearer such missing preparation comes out in the interview. Your answers and the questions you are asking will clearly show if you have done some "homework". If you have not taken the time to find out more about the company, why would the company bother to take time to find out more about you?
But more imortantly: Would you want to work for a company you know nothing about? Their culture, ethics and targets might collide completely with yours and both sides will not get happy. You might have gotten a job but it might be only for a short while.
